For a number of years “Peninsula Rent A Car” has been looking after the motoring needs of both locals and tourist alike. On 1st May 2021, Walter & Tania Christensen purchased Peninsula Rent A Car and took over the running of the company.

Walter and Tania returned to Whitianga after 11 years out of the district. We have always been very passionate about the peninsula in particular Whitianga, Walt’s parents (Art & Jenny) had one of the early houses on Catherine Cres, Walt can recall as a young child running across the paddock to the estuary, where a lot of boating and fishing happened which start his lifelong love of fishing and the ocean. We meet and married in Whitianga and our 4 kids all went to MBAS, so we have a lot of happy memories here.

We are both very passionate about fishing, it was late 2020 after purchasing our game fishing launch, we made the decision to return to Whitianga, all the kids had grown up, flown the coop and it was time for us to return home.

We steamed our 33ft launch up the east coast of NZ from Waikawa Marina in Picton to Whitianga after 6 days at sea we arrived safe and sound in Whitianga the week before Xmas, it was an adventure of a life time that we won’t forget in a hurry. After the holiday period it was at this time, we started the search for the right business for us.

We were excited to find and purchase the rental car company, it’s a great fit for our skill set - Walter is a fitter turner by trade, he has worked in the building industry but also was in the automotive trade for a number of years in sales.  Tania’s background includes Office management, Sales & marketing, HR & hospitality, Tania also does a couple of shifts down at MBGFC. We are very passionate about people and customer service. We feel very privileged to be back in Whitianga and being able to support the wider community.

In the coming months there will be some changes happening - so keep an eye out - pop in and say Hi, the jug is always on and always hot.
